As a Nicaraguan-Cuban first-generation American, I understand that multilingualism has the power to inspire cultural appreciation and self-discovery. I noticed this especially during my first trip to Spain, a 2020 study abroad in Cantabria, where I met people from every corner of the world. Communication with people of different backgrounds is incredibly valued in Spain and many other countries. I believe this skill can help prepare us for successful lives. So, while pursuing a degree in engineering at my Florida university, I have gravitated towards teaching and investing in the future of our communities by being an English linguistic model for non-native speakers. I have seen through experiences with TEFL, intensive English programs, and teaching assistance that English education has been a constant and gratifying part of my life.

My parents, for example, are English learners who grasped the language through listening and speaking with me. They sparked my passion for teaching and inspired my philosophy of centering students' needs and interests. Volunteer work with my university’s international student community as an English conversational lead has shown me the same. My work as a tutor in English and Spanish language, has taught me that refining lessons to accommodate learning preferences is key to student success. My skills as a native English speaker and certified TEFL instructor will help me expose students to the grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary that can be crucial to master. Additionally, firsthand experiences with language learning have prepared me to motivate students through positivity, respect, and successful classroom management. It is greatly fulfilling that as their English continues to improve, so does their educational, career, and social growth. English is an international language and learning it will provide Spanish generations with a formidable tool that will not only open infinite doors to their knowledge and opportunities, but also allow them to share their own skills and amazing culture with the rest of the world. Likewise, as a cultural ambassador, I hope to embody the courage and drive of a Hispanic-American through a truly genuine and positive lens.

With gratitude and excitement,
